Russia Arrests Two for Alleged Ukrainian Espionage
(MENAFN) On Friday, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) reported the detention of two individuals in the Bryansk region, accusing them of collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence agencies.
According to the FSB, the detainees are alleged to have taken photos and videos of military and law enforcement facilities while also engaging in planned sabotage activities. The two are suspected of receiving explosives, firearms, and additional materials via drones, with communication reportedly occurring through messaging apps to receive instructions from contacts in Ukraine.
In a troubling revelation, one of the suspects allegedly claimed to have concealed weapons in various locations throughout Russia. Meanwhile, the other suspect reportedly worked on developing devices designed to remotely detonate explosives.
Authorities reportedly seized a collection of items during a raid at one suspect’s residence, including drones, a silenced pistol, ammunition, detonators, and other related equipment.
As of now, both suspects remain in custody, facing charges of treason and illegal possession of explosives. A formal criminal investigation is underway.
The Bryansk region, which shares a border with Ukraine, has been a hotspot for numerous incidents since Russia’s invasion in 2022.
Ukraine has yet to release any official comment on the matter.
