Russia announces plans to establish power station on moon by 2036

(MENAFN) Russia has announced plans to establish a power station on the Moon by 2036 as part of its long-term lunar ambitions, according to official statements.

The proposed facility is intended to provide energy for lunar rovers and a scientific observatory operating under Russia’s Moon program, while also supporting infrastructure linked to the planned International Lunar Research Station.

Describing the significance of the initiative, officials said, “The project is an important step toward the creation of a permanent scientific lunar station and the transition from one-time missions to a long-term lunar exploration program.”

In addition to the power facility, the program includes the development of new spacecraft, extensive ground-based experimental work, flight testing, and the gradual deployment of infrastructure on the lunar surface.

It was also disclosed that in December 2025, a state contract was signed with an aerospace manufacturer to carry out work on the lunar power station project through 2036.
